When I see all the beautiful bags you are collecting on this site, I start dreaming. Such a lot of various forms, materials, ideas designers put into their bag fashion!
And how different the material for bags can be, this I have seen just this week-end when I stumbled over a bag site:
www.apfelsina.de. It is a commercial site, OK, they all want to sell their products. But the bags are cute, aren't they? And what I want to tell you about is their Weimar Project. (Click on "Weimar-Taschen" under the menu item "Produktion".)
Imagine, in summer 2003, there was a big installation on the central square (at the National Theatre) - a big panorama canvas (having a height of 4 metres) was erected there, all painted with flowers and trees from Polynesia, at first glance the visitor felt he is somewhere in Samoa or so ... :-), but not in Germany. The painting was performed by
Yadegar Asisi, an artist and architect of international fame who lives in Berlin. But after the feast is over - what would you do with a beautiful huge canvas? :-) They sliced it into pieces and sewed beautful bags of it! Every Weimar bag is sewed by hand, and there is, of course, never one like the other - a real unicate!
Gosh, I haven't sewed for a while ... I feel like trying it, too. I do not have an artist's painting on a canvas, but I have some own nice photographs I could iron onto canvas ... Brake me ... :-)
